Inspiration Spotlight Link Up #17

So my first time co-hosting the link party was, I believe, a huge success! We had almost 50 link ups!  Some crafting, some cooking & of course holiday entries. With so many great ideas, it was hard to choose features. I pinned some party favorites to this board, so be sure to check it out!

Now for the party! Here are our picks from this past weeks link-up & who is in the Spotlight! Don't forget to join in anytime during the week & maybe next week it will be your turn to be in the Spotlight.

In the Spotlight
I adore burlap, so this wreath is right up my alley!
As soon as I saw this, I knew I was going to need to make some! Perfect for crafters of all ages, with just a little help for the youngest ones =)
This picture makes my mouth water! It looks so delicious!
Sometimes there are projects that are so easy & cute you just have to make them. Imagine all the creative ways you could dress them up! My front porch will not be complete until I have made a family of these snowmen! And living in the south, they may be the only "snowmen" I get to build lol
Thank you to all the bloggers who linked up this week either hostess's sites. Don't forget to tell a friend so we can continue to grow this party!
What are you creating this week?

Project Nursery Part 4

Yes, I'm still working on Parker's nursery! We've just been extremely busy lately.  I thought I'd show off the gallery wall that is above the changing table/dresser (It's what the gold mirror is propped up against. It has to be refinished.).  But anyway, this is the mirror that I found at a flea market for $8! I love how ornate it is. Perfect for a little girl... or at least it is now that it's not that gaudy gold.
Thank you, spray paint, for matching my yellow chevron striped wall perfectly!
Here is the finished mirror with more of the frames I spray painted for the gallery wall.  I love gallery walls, but I didn't want it to feel cluttered or busy, so I kept it pretty simple. I can't believe she'll be here in less than 15 weeks! Her due date is 99 days from today!

Liebster Blog

I’ll be honest, most times I don’t have time to blog everyday. Sometimes even every week.  But I do love when I DO get to blog a bit. Especially when I know that people are reading it.

I was nominated for another Liebster Blog Award by Allison from The Golden Sycamore and Andrea from One Creative Housewife.  They both have very lovely blogs that you should definitely check out!

The Liebster Award is given by bloggers to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It is to show new bloggers that they are appreciated, and to help spread the word about new blogs.

There are some rules that go along with it..........

1. You must post 11 random things about yourself

2. You must answer the questions that the nominator set for you

3. You must create 11 questions for the people that you nominate

4. You must choose 11 blogs that you love (with less than 200 followers) and link them

to your post and let them know they were nominated

5. No tag back

So… 11 random things about me…

1.       I like to wear either boots or flip flops depending on the season.  Apparently, I like my feet to be either really bundled up or barely covered at all!

2.       I could easily live in a big city; my husband could easily live in the country.  I guess we’ll just have to compromise =)

3.       One of my pregnancy cravings consisted of V8 juice and sugar cookies.

4.       I was an art major in college.

5.       I collect cookbooks like people collect their favorite author. The more pictures the better.

6.       I am half of Image 1:27 Photography. Eventually I’m hoping the business will take off enough that I’ll be able to do it full-time.

7.       I’m partially colorblind.

8.       If I try to schedule something without writing it down, it’s not going to happen.

9.       I still don’t have a smart phone =(

10.   I love the show “White Collar”

11.   Coming up with 11 things to say about myself should not have been this difficult!

Allison’s questions for me:

1. What is your New Years Resolution going to be:  Lose the baby weight after Parker is born.

2. What article of clothing could you not live without: Right now that would be leggings! Real pants are so uncomfortable when growing a person.

3. Are you a morning person or a night owl: Night owl. Definitely.

4. What is your favorite book: I love a mystery.

5. What is your least favorite room in your house: The dining room, but only because it’s still empty. We just bought our house over the summer.

6. What is something you want to accomplish within the next six months: Hopefully go back to school.

7. What's your favorite vacation spot: Anywhere relaxing. I like it all.

8. What is your dream job if you could do anything: I really would love to stay home with my daughter and do my photography.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve in public:  Sagging pants >:(

10. What was the last movie you saw in a theater: Wow… I remember liking it, but not what it was called/about/anything… Let’s chalk that up to pregnancy brain. I’ll probably remember in the middle of the night.

11. Do you have any pets? If so what are they & what are their names: No pets yet, but when we get a dog we’re going to name him Zildjan (ZIL-gin) after the cymbal line. My husband is a percussion director.

My questions for nominees:

1. What is your favorite food?

2. If you had an afternoon to yourself what would you do?

3. What is your favorite type of coffee drink?

4. Have you ever played a sport? If so which ones?

5. What is your favorite restaurant?

6. What was your very first job?

7. What is your favorite season, and why?

8. Favorite quote or saying:

9. Do you prefer long hair or short?

10. What is your decorating style?

11. Favorite flavor of ice cream:

And the nominees are:
Megan from Ephesians 5:33 Wife
Jessica from Green PB&Js

24 week update

Before I get started, I'd like to announce that I am now co-hosting a linky party!! Please click <here> to join in this week! Now on to Baby Land....

Ok, so I'm a week late getting this post up! Things have been hectic around here lately.  We had a wedding on Saturday, a big family portrait session on Sunday, I attended 2 field trips on Monday and Tuesday, and then Tuesday evening we left to go see my Mom for Thanksgiving. We got home Friday afternoon and decorated our house for Christmas. Saturday, we had Thanksgiving with my husband's family (and registered for Baby things!), and Sunday Image 1:27 Photography was booked for a family portrait session out of town.  It has been quite a week.

Since last time, Parker has gotten a LOT bigger (I say Parker, but really I mean my belly; it sounds better saying it's the baby though).  She is kicking and punching and stretching and rolling all the time! Andrew can feel her consistantly now, and a lot of the time we can even see the movements happening.  It's so cool to watch.  She's finally turning out of breech (Thank God!), so we feel movements at the top of my belly now.  She really seems to like just underneath my ribs on my left side.
We haven't really done anymore to the nursery this month.  I'm waiting on a friend to get back in town so he and my husband can refinish the dresser.  We did register for baby shower/Christmas gifts on Saturday!  When we registered for our wedding, Andrew only wanted to register for things we *needed* and our opinion of what was needed was incredibly different (Him: Why do we need towels? I have towels!  Me: No, you have old blue rags that used to be towels that you got at the beginning of college that are falling apart and don't match anything.)  However, when registering for Parker... "We have to get the best one!!"  She has him wrapped around her tiny little finger. We had so much fun picking out everything and imagining her wearing/playing/using it all.
Hopefully, my 27 week post will be on time!

How far along? Today, I am 25 weeks, 4 days... I know... I posted this nearly 2 weeks late =(
Size of baby: Over a foot long. About the size of an eggplant.  She weighs over a pound and a half.
Total weight gain: 15 pounds-ish
Stretch marks? None so far =)
Sleep: As long as Andrew stops stealing my body pillow, I sleep pretty well haha  He's discovered how wonderful it is.

Best moment this week: Registering for Parker's things.  Our families told us to register before Christmas so they'd have an idea of what gifts to get.
Worst moment this week: More pregnancy brain fails... I left the house without deoderant one day, wore leggings backward all day and wondered why the stupid people who made them put the tag in the front... Never occurred to me that they were on backwards. I'm really hoping I go back to "normal" after Parker gets here!
Movement: Strong and steady! My husband can feel them and we love to sit and watch my stomach move around.
Food cravings: Orange juice!  I bought new body wash (Mango Mandarin) and the first time I used it, I called my husband into the bathroom and told him that unless he wanted me to eat he soap, I needed him to go to the store for some OJ!
What I miss: Sushi!  We went to a Japanese restaurant the other day and it was everywhere.

What I am looking forward to: Andrew's family Christmas party on Sunday.  Some of these people we haven't seen in a year, so it will be so nice to reconnect!
Weekly Wisdom: Being pregnant over the winter-time is the way to go! Hormones keep me so warm that the cool temps feel awesome!

Pallet Christmas Tree

<Before we get started, please take the time to link up to the BRAND NEW linky party I am proud to be co-hosting! Thanks! >

My friend Ryan sent the other girls in our small group a picture from Pinterest of a pallet Christmas tree.  It was so adorable! We like to have a craft night about once a month or so, and we all decided that this needed to be this month's craft.

Her husband had some pallets left over from a pumpkin patch. He actually built the pallet trees for us (he's so handy!).

To add the writing, Ryan printed out text from her computer, and we used a really easy transfer method to paint it on our trees.

*I apologize for the pictures. They were taken with my not-so-smart phone.*

To start, we traced the back of the text with artists' charcoal (you can also rub it with pencil or chalk).
Next we lined up the words where we wanted them on the wood charcoal-side down and traced the outline of the words with a ball point pen. After you do this, you can move the paper away, and the charcoal will have trasferred onto your surface.
You can see it really well in this picture.
After the outline was done, we filled in the letters with paint using a small flat brush.  I freehanded the star at the top.
I really love how it turned out! It was so simple and quick to make, we'll probably be making more! Hello, Christmas presents =)

Red Velvet Cake Balls

1 box red velvet cake mix
1 tub cream cheese frosting
Almond Bark

Prepare the red velvet cake according to package directions. After baking, allow to cool slightly (enough to handle) and cut into small squares (about 2 inches).  Put the cake squares in to a bowl. Add in half of the cream cheese frosting. Squish the cake and frosting together with your hands.  Add more frosting if needed until all the cake is blended and moist.  Roll a spoonful of the mixture between your hands to make a ball shape. Chill for about 30 minutes.

Melt the almond bark in a big bowl.  Dip each cake ball into the almond bark and place it on a cookie sheet topped with wax paper (if you don't use wax paper, the almond bark will stick and your cake ball will not come off).  Allow to cool so the almond bark rehardens.

Be careful! These are addictive =)

Swimming with the Fishes

Over the weekend, my husband and I went to Mobile, AL to visit his "sister" and her family. Their little boy turns four today, so we had his party on Sunday.  The theme was "Swimming with the Fishes."
The four of us stayed up SUPER late after Stephen went to bed to set up for his party.  His reaction the next morning was priceless! He jumped out of bed and ran into the hallway where he saw this:
The hallway had been transformed into his own aquarium.  He loved looking at the sharks, turtles, and of course "Nemo." He said, "Oh, Wow! It's Decorated!"
The gift table was adorable with more fish pictures decorating the table cloth and a dolphin mylar balloon (that he later insisted that we tie to his bed so the dolphin could sleep with him!)
The food I think was the most incredible!  Everything fit into the Under Water theme.
From top: "Shark Bait" Watermelon Shark Fruit Bowl
"Fish Bites" Gummy Snacks
"Fish and Chips" Goldfish Crackers and Potato Chips
Peanutbutter and "Jellyfish" Sandwiches
"Submarine" Sandwiches
"Fan-Sea Treats" Cake Balls

Happy Birthday, Big Boy! We love you very much!

Sandwich Spread

For Bible Study, our small group alternates making dinner and dessert.  This past week was my turn, but I was running short on time, so I just threw together turkey subs.  I wanted to toast them to get the cheese melty, and that would make the sandwich stick to itself.  I whipped up a simple sandwich spread to put on the sandwiches before I toasted them, so we wouldn't have to bother taking them apart to add condiments later.
I mixed together mayo and mustard and added a sprinkling of Onion and Herb Mrs. Dash and Tony's Creole Seasoning.  The spread was tangy and smooth, with just enough kick.   My husband thinks it should be bottled and mass-produced! I'm content just to make enough for us =)

First Dance

So I'm taking a break from Baby-land for a few days and wanted to make something totally different.
On Pinterest lately, I've seen a lot of wrapped canvases with pictures of couples accompanied by the lyrics to their "First Dance" song.  They are absolutely gorgeous... and a lot of times crazy expensive.  I figured I could make my own.

My husband and I didn't dance at our wedding reception, but his brother and his wife did.  Jessica (Green PB&Js) has been crafting up a storm lately and made Parker the most wonderful Wizard of Oz Wall Plaque that is going to be perfect hanging in her room.  I wanted to make her something in return, and I knew she'd love something like this.

I edited a photo from their wedding and got it printed.  I used spray adhesive to attatch it to a canvas.  Then I used brown paint to "distress" the edges and cover the sides of the canvas.  Their first dance was to "Your Song" by Elton John.

I really like how it turned out, and hopefully she does, too!
